STUFFED IDLY


One of my fav. reciepe. i prepared it in a party and it was really hit. every body was asking for the reciepe as they were surprised to find a stuffing in the center. try this and surprise your guests and loved ones.
Ingredients:
Sela (parboiled rice) 2 ½ cups
Dhuli urad daal( split black gram) 1 cup
Salt 2 tsp
Oil 3 tbsp
Boiled potato 1 mashed
Red mustard seeds 1½ tsp
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Der chilli powder ¼ tsp
Curry leaves 5
Asfoetida 1 pinch

Method:
Wash and soak daal and rice separately. Keep them soaked for 4-5 hours.
Grind them separately.grind daal to a very fine paste, addind a littlewater, till the daal turns absolutely smmoth and fluffy and a few bubbles can be seen
Grind rice a bit coursly by adding a little water . it should be like suji.
Mix them together with salt . mix thoroughly and keep covered overnight to ferment.
Take an idly mould and grease it with oil.
Take 1 tbsp of oil in a small pan and heat it.add asfoetida to it then add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add turmeric, ½ tsp salt,red chilli powder, immidiatly add roughly mashed potatoes.
Mix well and cook covered for 5 mins. Turn off the gas and let it cool.
Make very thin cutlets of this mixture of about 1” diameter.
Pour 1tbsp of batter in each cup of mould, place the thin potato cutlet in the middle of the batter.pour 1 tbsp of batter on top of it, to cover thew cutlet completely, steam it. Can steam in a big deep pan filled with 1” water. Cover the pan with a lid.steam for 15 mins.
If you are steaming in a microwave steam it for 4-5 mins.
Let it cool a bit and then remove idlies with the help of a knife.
Let them cool.
Now take 1 tbsp of oil in a non stick pan and heat it. Add red mustard seeds, when they splatter add all the idlies to it so that they get a cxoting of tadka.
Serve hot.
