Basoda or Basida; people call it by different names in different areas of our country. It is celebrated within a week from holi. Mothers in rajasthan, UP, haryana, go to temples to worship Shitala mata and pray for the wellness of their children. They prepare the food on the previous day as they do not eat warm or fresh food that day. The food is basi (left overnight) so this is called basoda. They prepare this food with great love, care and it is quite elaborate at times .
as they can have any thing that is not freshly cooked. For eg. Gur ke chawal, aachari aaloo, meethi roti, poori, missi roti, wadas, dahi vadas, pakori, lapsi, rabri, meethe pua, sakarpare, thepla, mangori, kair sangri, dahi, raita and many more things
I also made some things on Basuda. here are some of the reciepes...............
